Scala has been awarded the ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’ Award at the Personal Injury Awards 2023.
The Personal Injury Awards, which were held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on November 23rd, brought together the very best lawyers, law firms, and service providers.
We are thrilled that Scala was recognised for its national work in supporting law firms, lawyers, and the healthcare services sector. As an organisation Scala brings together a unique blend of talents, including legal knowledge, industry insights, content marketing, and PR expertise.
Our work continues to impact the nation at large as we connect with people and policymakers with the proven potential to change lives.
LUCY LETBY
Some of our recent campaigns include managing the significant media interest surrounding the sentencing of child serial killer, Lucy Letby, and the subsequent launch of the Thirlwall Inquiry. Scala were instructed by Switalskis solicitors, who represent the families of seven of the victims (the majority) in their Clinical Negligence claims against the Countess of Chester Trust, to sensitively manage the press interest. Heavy reporting restrictions meant the PR required careful handling/advising.
We helped to steer the public conversation - including the refusal by Letby to attend her sentencing hearing and the subsequent pledge by the government to give extra Judicial powers to force defendants into court; calling for a statutory public inquiry; and failures by the Trust Management.
Tamlin Bolton, Solicitor for the families of 7 of Letby's victims said, “The best thing about working with Scala is that they completely understand what needs to be done, how to do it and the right way to get it done. They know their industry like no one else and they have an exceptional ability to just intrinsically predict the next steps and plan ahead. The entire team are absolute professionals that work tirelessly to support you. If you have a question, they can answer it. If you have a worry, they will sort it. I am blown away by their knowledge of the legal industry, current affairs, media, and politics. They are simply unmatched, with a tireless drive and energy to push a project forward.”
NOTTINGHAM MATERNITY SCANDAL
In addition to this more recent case, we were also recognised for our PR campaigning around the Nottingham Maternity Scandal which first began in 2017. The PR campaign originated with one whistleblowing family, Dr Jack and Sarah Hawkins who wanted to share their story, and whose legal team were convinced there were extensive unsafe practices and a cover-up taking place.
A ‘power-in-numbers approach’ was taken to exposing the scandal. Through the dedication of the families affected sharing their experiences, and with the support of their lawyers, Scala has supported them in securing significant and prolonged PR coverage over the past 6 years, making this the largest maternity scandal in NHS history.
WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
On announcing them as winners in this highly competitive category, the judges said that Scala had “handled unprecedented media interest in one of the highest profile case this country has seen with care and dignity. Liaising closely with high-profile journalists to keep ahead of the latest development and ensure discretion throughout. The judges were highly impressed with the huge impact achieved by such a small team.”
NATALIE RODGERS, MANAGING DIRECTOR, SCALA
Upon winning the award, Natalie Rodgers, Managing Director said: “We are so grateful for this award; but more importantly we are grateful to the many clients who trust us to tell their stories and to support them through the darkest and most difficult of times. I’m proud of our small dedicated team who work so diligently and with purpose. We’d like to thank all our clients, whose fundamental and tremendous work is the backbone behind Scala’s many achievements.”
