Scala

Legal PR

At Scala, we are nationally recognised for our outstanding legal PR expertise and have secured multiple award wins for our work. Through our unique combination PR expertise, legal knowledge and sector insight, we create campaigns that strike a chord and connect with people, victims, politicians and policy makers.

Scala is routinely at the forefront of the biggest legal stories of the day. High profile work includes supporting the lawyers and families of the victims of Lucy Letby immediately after her conviction and at the Thirlwell Inquiry; managing press interest in the Post Office Inquiry on behalf of one of the leading barristers; and creating the PR strategy – spanning many years – to expose the UK’s biggest maternity scandal at Nottingham.

We are highly regarded by clients for our unrivalled understanding and practical approach. The PR campaigns we create are often only possible because of the skills, experience and expertise of the team in this niche sector. The team includes a former journalist, and is led by Scala’s Managing Director, Natalie Rodgers whose experience as a solicitor means she understands deeply the implications of ‘saying the right thing, at the right time’ without compromising any ongoing legal case or inquiry.

Finding the best way to present these stories and getting them in front of the right audience is what we do best. Over the years we have devised and executed a whole range of PR initiatives for law firms. From highlighting company successes, to advising on issues relating to reputation management.

We are routinely involved in the UK's biggest legal stories. It is privilege to tell stories that change laws and raise awareness of injustices.

Firms often underestimate the value of PR as part of their overall marketing strategy. Scala can help you unlock your PR potential. Contact NatalieRodgers@Scala.uk.com or call 0114 4070159

How we work

We are Members of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations which means we are committed to the highest professional and ethical standards.

Following a client instruction, we sit down with the lawyers and their clients to understand the situation and get a thorough grasp of the details of a case or campaign. We advise on the right angle to secure maximum coverage or where required, how we can control the narrative or minimise the impact of negative news stories. From there, we produce impactful and detailed media releases for approval prior to release. We pride ourselves on the press releases we produce, giving the press a comprehensive understanding of the situation and allowing for the accuracy in coverage the client seeks.

We are present on the day to manage media interviews and provide on the spot advice and media interview coaching. Our work has taken us all over the UK, and we’ve attended a large number of inquest hearings, ‘live’ studio interviews, as well as pre-recorded interviews to provide support to the lawyers and their clients.

We have connections across the legal, healthcare, and mainstream press, both on a national and regional level. Depending on what the client is looking for, we can target specific markets to boost brand recognition in target areas or in the national press. We are often contacted by journalists looking for legal comment, and these requests enable us to help the law firms and barristers that we work with raise their brand visibility and showcase their expertise to potential new clients.

We have helped law firms to get coverage on BBC News, ITV News, Sky, The Telegraph, Radio 4 and many others. We have a ‘Little Black Book’ of media contacts to suit every situation. We also have strong links with legal publications such as The Law Society GazetteThe LawyerLegal FuturesClaims Media and Modern Law.

Our PR strategy campaigns increase your visibility across social media, print, and the web, ensuring that brand recognition remains online for years to come. By actively managing your internal and external communications, we work collaboratively with you to help build your brand and increase your client reach and engagement.

Scala PR – what clients say

Scala is very proud of our reputation in PR and here is what some of our clients say about our service.

“Many Nottingham families have told me on countless occasions how important the support and expertise of Scala has been in ensuring their voices are heard and amplified. They have been so grateful for your kindness and compassion over such a long period of time.” Donna Ockenden, Chair, Nottingham Maternity Inquiry

“It is an extraordinary achievement that would not have been possible without Scala. You are first-class PR strategists, who turn very emotional statements from us and other families into coherent and, frankly, brilliant media releases. The interest you generate is immense. Without your help, your focus, support and never-ending encouragement we would not have had the strength and confidence to do what we have done. Families in Nottingham have found their voices through you.” Dr Jack and Sarah Hawkins

“Scala completely understand what needs to be done, how to do it and the right way to get it done. I am blown away by their knowledge of the legal industry, current affairs, media, and politics. They are simply unmatched, with a tireless drive and energy to push a project forward.” Tamlin Bolton, Switalskis

“From the moment I met with Scala, I felt confident they would help expose Chloe's devastating experience and the inquest into her death with sensitivity and professionalism. They secured an incredible number of press interviews, guiding me throughout to ensure Chloe's story was handled with the utmost respect. Having been projected onto this unwanted and unknown path, I felt cared for throughout the short time I worked with them. Press and journalists often get a bad rep, but we will forever be grateful for them helping to illuminate beautiful Chloe, truthfully and accurately sharing what happened to her, after 2 long, painful years of denial and delusion. Thank you.” The Family of Chloe Longster, who died aged 13 from Sepsis.

“We could not have done it without you… you are media godmothers and have helped give us courage to speak out publicly.” Nottingham Mum

“Scala are extremely cooperative, sensitive, discreet, and empathetic, with a clear sense of the challenges the families have faced in dealing with the media. Scala has provided many of them with timely, bespoke advice that has made dealing with the families – both straightforward and rewarding.” Michael Buchanan Social Affairs Correspondent, BBC News

“Natalie and her team at Scala are always unswervingly supportive of our clients and our firm. Whatever we ask and whenever we ask it, they are there. Without them we could not possibly have realised the extraordinary media presence we have had over this last year. Their contribution to this aspect of our business development has been critical.” Suzanne Munroe, Partner, Switalskis
