Scala supports Sheffield mum in her bid to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Ward at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital

We are pleased to announce that as part of Scala’s commitment to pro-bono work, we are supporting local mum Julie Bembridge with PR, social media and digital marketing activities as she embarks on an incredible 100 continuous mile run to raise money for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Julie is going to run a staggering 100 miles - continuously - in a bid to raise money for the refurbishment of Ward 6 at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The ward cares for children and teenagers with cancer and blood disorders and has treated Julie’s son, Stan for just over the last 3 years following his leukaemia diagnosis.

Stan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukeamia at Christmas in 2017, when he was 12 years old. In March 2021, following 3 years and 3 months of treatment, and a week before his 16^th birthday, his treatment will end.

Just a few months into Stan’s treatment, the hospital announced a £2.75million fundraising appeal to refurbish the children’s cancer ward. Julie pledged that once Stan’s treatment came to an end, she would undertake her biggest running challenge to date, and help raise funds to meet the hospital’s target. Her motivation is to run in honour of all the children treated on the ward, to thank the staff for their care of Stan and support to her family…and…for her son Stan, who has shown remarkable courage and strength throughout his diagnosis and treatment.

Julie’s challenge will begin on Friday 23^rd July 2021, and she hopes to complete the run-on Saturday 24^th July – which is her 51^st birthday!
