Scala’s Managing Director, Natalie Rodgers, becomes a Trustee for a new charity, STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation.

STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation launched in Autumn 2023 and aims to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities following injury or illness by facilitating access to specialist services and equipment. The Foundation is run by a team of dedicated Trustees, some of whom have experienced life-changing injuries of their own. Alongside Scala's Managing Director, Natalie Rodgers, other Trustees include Jules Shiel-Boulger and Toria Chan (Directors of STEPS Rehabilitation), and former STEPS clients, Mike Howard and Dr Ed Hudson, along with Ed's fiance, Dr Izzy Allsop.

The Foundation runs entirely independently of STEPS Rehabilitation and its primary focus is to provide funding to individuals who need access to a wide variety of support, and who don't necessarily have access to support via a compensation claim. Not everyone who is injured receives compensation to access the support they need, and it is these individuals that will benefit from STEPS Foundation.

“Having worked in the personal injury sector in some capacity all my professional life, intially as a personal injury solicitor and then as a PR and marketing specialist working in the field of injury law for nearly 20 years,  I’ve seen first hand what an impact the right support can have on an individual's life" explains Natalie. "The Foundation will fund equipment that can make a huge difference to their day-to-day living as well as provide access to specialist treatment and other services. Scala has been working with STEPS Rehabilitation since 2018, and more recently with STEPS Prosthetics following their launch in 2022. It is therefore a privilege to be a part of this new charitable foundation which exemplifies the core values of quality care and empowerment that STEPS Rehabilitation is known for.”

A fundraising launch party was held at The Alder, located at Sheffield's Kelham Island, on 14th September. There were over 50 guests in attendance, comprising industry friends and colleagues from across the country.

The STEPS Foundation Trust has created opportunities to work with a range of service providers and supplies that represent the best value for money and customer service. Here are just some of the therapies, services and support that STEPS Foundation will help to fund:

  • Specialist rehabilitation, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and hydrotherapy.
  • Home adaptations.
  • Disability aids and specialist equipment.
  • Accessible leisure and sport experiences, services and/or equipment.

Funds that enable STEPS Foundation to do this important work are raised through generous donations from corporations and individuals, charity events, and an annual flagship fundraiser.
