We’re delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the ‘Marketing & Communication Strategy’ Award at the Modern Law Awards for our PR and communications work in relation to the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUHT) maternity scandal.
Since 2017 Scala has been instructed by Switalskis Solicitors to provide PR support to them and also the affected families. It began with helping the whistleblowing family – Dr Jack and Sarah Hawkins – to share their horrific experience which left their daughter, Harriet, dead. By bravely speaking out about their experience, they raised awareness of the problems at the Trust which resulted in many more families coming forward. In 2022, after many years of campaigning, families met with the Health Secretary which culminated in the appointment of Donna Ockenden to Chair an Independent Review into Maternity Services at NUHT.
As at the end of January 2023, 900 families had come forward to take part in the review and more than 400 staff, making it, sadly, the largest maternity scandal in the UK.
The awards, which are in their 9th year, identify and celebrate the greatest talent and success stories in the UK legal sector.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 2nd March 2023 at The Hurlingham Club, London.
