The year is 2024, a year of great innovation and technological advancement. It's also a time of great change in social media. Yet, LinkedIn remains the most essential social media platform for business development and outreach. Unlike others, LinkedIn has been built with businesses in mind, putting it in a category of its own. Perhaps its closest rival is X (formally Twitter), though as over 100 companies pulled their advertising earlier in 2023, some are seeing its influence diminish over time.
This means that LinkedIn remains an essential social media platform to get to grips with. However, many businesses aren’t maximising their potential. It offers so much more scope for development than the usual posts and messaging.
Scala recently attended the Trends in Digital Marketing seminar, which covered a range of topics on how to utilise marketing in 2024. Social media was unsurprisingly a focal point of the discussions, with LinkedIn standing alone as the best platform for businesses once again. In this article, we will be showcasing some of LinkedIn’s most powerful tools and how they can directly boost your business profile.

Checking the Basics
Before we move on to the more underutilised aspects of LinkedIn’s extensive array of features, it’s important to make sure the basics are covered. Many businesses set up accounts quickly and just move on to posting the odd image or article over time. However, without checking the following, this will have little impact.
- Optimise Your Page: Research indicates that pages containing comprehensive information witness a 30% increase in weekly views. Ensure you include your logo, commence with a summary featuring key terms for easy searchability, and incorporate a call-to-action button to prompt further engagement.
- Boost Your Content: Give your content a boost to maximise reactions and extend its reach. This enhancement enables connections with individuals who may not currently follow your page but could have potential interests.
- Encourage Followers: Motivate connections to explore and follow your page by utilising the ‘Invite Connections’ feature within the page admin tools.
- Build Conversations: Companies that post weekly experience twice the engagement. Actively engage in conversations, participate in discussions on LinkedIn, and showcase your brand by resharing posts where your business is mentioned. Boost your brand's exposure by using three to five relevant hashtags.
- Mobilise Your Workforce: Enhance your brand's credibility and authenticity by adding photos and videos and allowing your employees to express themselves through the "My Company" tab.
With the previous five points in mind, the following factors will have their maximum potential impact.
Activate Creator Mode
Creator Mode is a profile configuration designed to amplify your reach and influence on LinkedIn. By enabling creator mode, you unlock a range of supplementary tools and features, allowing you to craft content and expand your audience on the platform.
The 'Connect' button on your profile will change to 'Follow', and the number of followers you have will be showcased in your profile introduction, similar to X. Upon receiving a connection request while using creator mode, the requester automatically becomes a follower, maintaining this status even if you decline the invitation. They will continue to follow your posts until they manually unfollow them.
Enhance content discoverability by incorporating topics you post about as hashtags in the 'About' section of your profile, making it simpler for fellow LinkedIn members to find and follow your content. To spotlight your original content, we'll reposition your featured and activity sections to the forefront of your profile. Notably, the 'Activity' section will no longer display your likes, comments, and other interactions (available in 'See All Activity').
Utilise the LinkedIn Insight Tag
Essentially, it involves integrating a small JavaScript code onto every page of your website, preferably in the global footer. This discreet script places a cookie in the browser of each visitor to your site. Additionally, when individuals with LinkedIn accounts visit, you gain the ability to retarget them on LinkedIn at a later time.
However, its capabilities extend beyond mere retargeting. This tool enables you to assess performance based on various demographic criteria, including but not limited to:
- Job Title
- Job Function
- Company Name
- Seniority
- Location
- Company Industry
This will give you far more data on who is coming to your website. It can tell you who they are, what they do, the company they work for and so much more. This is invaluable to understand the sphere of influence your website is having. It is also a great way to build relationships with clients and customers, as when reaching out to them for the first time you will know that they are already familiar with your business.
Understand the Importance of Multimedia Content
Multimedia content is incredibly useful across multiple elements of LinkedIn. First, spend time looking over the content your company has been posting over the last few months. Is it all just written content? Are you using images to help your information pop?
While images are an improvement over standard text, videos are increasingly becoming a necessity. More people are absorbing information through visuals rather than the typical wall of text. Multimedia content can transform the way users interact with your social media and, indeed, boost your conversion rates.
Much like all other social media platforms, LinkedIn sees users scrolling through a feed of information; many posts will simply be ignored or overlooked, so it is essential to do what you can to grab the attention of the reader or viewer. One easy way to do this is to create infographics rather than just bullet-pointing the information.
Essentially, humans are visual creatures and process images 60,000 times faster than reading text. Infographics, therefore, mean that you can feed in more information, which the reader will absorb faster. On the battlefield of social media's feed, this is crucial to winning the war against other content.
However, it doesn't just end with infographics, as videos are becoming more and more important as the years roll by. Videos offer a unique opportunity to showcase your brand in ways that surpass other forms of content. They enable you to visually demonstrate the functionality of various elements, whether it's navigating an eCommerce website or unveiling a new technological innovation.
Moreover, they provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the inner workings of your business, particularly through how-to videos that elucidate operational processes. Videos excel at simplifying intricate subjects; if your products are unfamiliar to the audience, a concise two-minute video can illuminate their distinctive features.
The advantages of incorporating videos on LinkedIn extend beyond enhancing SEO ranking and generating leads. Sharing video clips fosters trust between the brand and consumers by humanising the company through real faces behind its walls. These visual narratives tell compelling stories about individuals, conveying authenticity through actions rather than mere words. This approach grants a creative licence that surpasses the constraints of written copy, allowing for greater imaginative expression.
