2025 has been a busy year for the Scala team, we have continued to provide PR support to leading UK law firms and the individuals involved in high-profile cases.

Scala was also included in the Chambers & Partners 2025 UK Rankings for Litigation PR & Communications support. We attended and sponsored key industry events, including the ALL-Events Maternity Claims Conference, AvMA and SCIL, and Natalie contributed to the panel discussion at the Law Firm Ambition Conference in London, sharing insights on marketing, business development and sector growth. 

Our team also expanded to meet growing client demand, welcoming Sam Andersone to our marketing team, Archie Leahy and Rebecca Finley to PR, strengthening our capacity to support complex, high-profile cases. Scala’s work was recognised with a shortlisting for Marketing Campaign of the Year at the 2025 Personal Injury Awards.

Southport Attack Trial  

We continued to support families affected by the Southport attack through the trial and sentencing, managing all media coordination with Bond Turner and preparing trauma-informed guidance for broadcast interviews. Amid intense national media coverage, our priority remained protecting families’ voices as the case progressed the public-inquiry phase. 

The Nottingham Attack Survivors First Media Interviews 

We managed the first media interview given by Sharon Miller and Wayne Birkett, two of the survivors of the Nottingham Attacks carried out in 2023. We carefully coordinated national and regional reporting around the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference and the two-year anniversary of the attacks. 

Maxine Spittlehouse Inquest after Outsourced NHS Surgery 

Instructed by Medical Solicitors, we supported Maxine Spittlehouse’s family across the pre- and post-inquest stages, coordinating press engagement to highlight the wider patient-safety and neglect concerns arising from NHS patients being outsourced to private hospitals for surgery. 

Nottingham Maternity Independent Inquiry 

Continuing our pro bono work with the Maternity Safety Alliance (MSA) and whistleblowers Dr Jack and Sarah Hawkins, we coordinated national media engagement throughout the ongoing independent inquiry into maternity and neonatal services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, ensuring that families’ experiences remained at the heart of the conversation. 

Anniversary of Alton Towers ‘Smiler’ Rollercoaster Crash  

For the 10-year anniversary of the Alton Towers ‘Smiler’ rollercoaster crash, we supported Stewarts and their clients Joe Pugh and Leah Washington-Pugh. Both were seriously injured in the incidentand we helped with media engagement ahead of the fundraiser ball they were hosting to raise money for Midlands and Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charities and the LimbBo Foundation. 

Chloe Ellis: NHS 111 Communication Failures 

We worked with Stewarts to support Chloe Ellis’ family in engaging with broadcast media, highlighting failures in communication between NHS 111 and A&E that contributed to her death, and advocating for procedural improvements. 

Tony Holliday’s Quad Bike Incident Abroad 

We facilitated media engagement for Tony Hollidaywho sustained life changing injuries during an unsafe quad bike excursion. Coverage was secured in over thirty outletsemphasising holiday safeguarding concerns while protecting Mr Holliday’s legal claim. 

Rapid Review of Maternity Care 

We provided PR support for the Maternity Safety Alliance (MSA) in responding to the Government’s rapid review and its Terms of ReferenceWe assisted the families in publicly highlighting areas that were overlooked and concerns that had not been adequately addressed.  

Cauda Equina Syndrome Awareness 

We raised national awareness of Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) with Stewarts and their client Toni-Claire Miller. We coordinated interviews that highlighted the condition’s red-flag symptoms that are often missed, prompting many individuals to share similar experiences of delayed or missed CES diagnosis. 

Independent Inquiry into Leeds Maternity Services 

Following the Government’s announcement of an independent inquiry into maternity and neonatal services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, we coordinated press activity under a tight embargo and provided on-site support to harmed and bereaved families from Leeds during major broadcast interviews.  

The Dangers of Private Maternity Scans 

We have supported Stewarts and their client Charlotte Tolley in a national public awareness campaign exposing the lack of regulation for sonographers and the risks of private baby scan clinics.

Awards Recognition 

Scala was shortlisted for Marketing Campaign of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards 2025. This acknowledges Scala’s role as a niche consultancy delivering campaigns that raise profiles, drive public conversation, and influence policy across injury law and clinical negligence.

  • Archie Leahy – Marketing and PR Executive. Durham University graduate, MSc in Media and Public Relations, brings strategic communication and media engagement expertise. 
  • Rebecca Finley – PR Executive. Former PR consultant in a tech-focused agency, supporting campaigns on complex topics for national and international clients. 

Training  

Scala continues to support clients through tailored training programmes. 

  • Media Interview Training for Lawyers – We delivered in-house, bespoke training days for leading UK law firms, preparing lawyers to handle broadcast and press interviews with confidence, clarity, and professionalism. The sessions covered techniques for managing challenging questions, structuring key messages, and maintaining composure under scrutiny, ensuring clients are represented effectively in high-profile or sensitive cases. 
  • LinkedIn Training– Scala provided targeted training to help organisations and individuals enhance their presence on LinkedIn. This included guidance on optimising profiles, creating engaging and professional content, building networks strategically, and leveraging the platform to raise individual and firm profiles. 

Community Engagement 

To round off the year, we sponsored a star as part of the STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation’s Christmas Charity Stars Appeal, a festive light installation at the STEPS Rehabilitation Centre, demonstrating our continued commitment to supporting charitable initiatives aligned with our sector focus.
