Following a hearing last week, Chair of the Nottingham Inquiry, Her Honour Deborah Taylor, has agreed that the inquiry proceedings should be streamed on YouTube when hearings begin in London in February 2026.
The Nottingham inquiry’s legal team had proposed private streaming and a ‘conditional broadcast’, meaning considerable parts of the inquiry and evidence heard would not have been accessible to those not at the hearing in person.
However, the Survivors legal team made a strong case for proceedings to be streamed publicly with a short delay, and made submissions that it was essential for the archive of evidence to be available on YouTube to ensure the ability for meaningful engagement from the wider public, particularly for communities in Nottingham and the East Midlands.
The Survivors solicitor, Greg Almond, a partner at Rothera Bray said “The Survivors of the attack welcome the decision by the Chair. Online access is vital to ensure that the Nottinghamshire community can follow the proceedings and hold their institutions accountable. The Inquiry will scrutinise the conduct of the local Nottingham based agencies and institutions, including Nottingham Mental Health Trust, Nottinghamshire Police, Nottingham City Council, and Nottingham University, in examining systems and the management of patients with mental health disorders and psychosis. The decision to broadcast the inquiry means that public interest is being served and there can be meaningful public engagement.”
