Scala supports Rothera Bray with PR efforts ahead of Nottingham Inquiry

Scala has been instructed by Rothera Bray Solicitors to provide PR support for two of the survivors of the 2023 Nottingham attacks ahead of the upcoming public inquiry.

We have been providing PR support to Greg Almond, Partner and Head of Personal Injury at Rother Bray, who represents survivors Wayne Birkett and Sharon Miller. Both were left with life-changing injuries as a result of the attack carried out by paranoid schizophrenic Valdo Calocane. As the public inquiry approaches, Scala has been helping to ensure the survivors' stories are heard and that their calls for Nottingham’s leaders to take an active role in the inquiry.  

Prior to the attack, Valdo Calocane had contact with various government agencies, including mental health services and the police. With the inquiry seeking to uncover potential failings in mental health provisions and agency coordination, Sharon and Wayne believe that now is a vital time for local leadership to show their willingness to engage with the inquiry and to ensure its recommendations are properly implemented. Supported by their legal team, the survivors are now appealing for a meeting with local MPs and East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward, to ensure there is a coordinated response to the inquiry and a clear commitment to its recommendations.

In a pivotal moment earlier this month, Scala supported Wayne and Sharon in sharing their story publicly for the first time. We provided on-the-day interview support for their interview with BBC East Midlands, and arranged follow up interviews with Greg to secure coverage across various media outlets. This resulted in wcoverage, with Greg being featured by key outlets such as The Times, ITV, Sky News, The Independent, and Hits Radio East Midlands.
