Another baby that should have lived

‘Teddy’ Errington Rozkalns was born at Nottingham City Hospital on 23^rd November 2020, but died the following evening on the 24^th November 2020.

His parents are represented by Clinical Negligence solicitor, Sadie Simpson of Switalskis Solicitors.  The three-day inquest into the death of Teddy Errington Rozkalns will open at Nottingham Coroners Court 12^th October 2021. At this stage, we don’t know whether the conclusion will be handed on the 14^th October 2021 by HM Assistant coroner, Miss Bowers.

Baby Teddy

Teddy was born on the 23^rd November 2020 at Nottingham City Hospital, he died on 24^th November 2020 at one day old. He had been discharged home following delivery, but his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was readmitted. Tragically resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and he died.

A HSIB investigation has revealed that it was not recognised that Teddy required hypoglycaemic screening.

Sadie Simpson a Solicitor at Switalskis Solicitors who is advising the family states:

“The investigation at present has revealed that Teddy was not put on the correct post-natal pathway preventing a holistic review of his care. It will be really important at the inquest to examine all the evidence to make sure that Teddy’s family find out why Teddy died and whether anything could or should have been done differently.”

Maternity Services at NUHT

The CQC investigated the maternity services at Nottingham UH NHST in 2020. Conditions were imposed under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Section 31. A Section 29a notice was also given and the Trust had 3 months to rectify the significant improvements they identified.

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has now also launched a separate investigation into the Trust. It has promised that it will be fully independent, with families given a say in how it will work and over what timescale it examines.

The investigation will be led by clinical experts from outside the Nottingham area and the full terms of reference for its works will be published as well as the final report and any recommendations.
